Dr. Mohammad Salha, the acting director of Al-Awda Hospital in northern Gaza, has announced that the facility is on the brink of closing due to a critical lack of fuel. In a recent interview, Salha revealed that the hospital was forced to stop operations for eight hours and is only able to run a small generator to maintain essential services.
Salha explained that the hospital had to postpone ten out of eighteen scheduled operations due to the fuel shortage. With only 60 liters of fuel remaining, the hospital can only manage emergency surgeries. The dire situation has forced them to turn away patients, impacting daily operations which previously handled 15 to 20 cases.
The conflict’s toll on Gaza’s most vulnerable is severe. Salha described the distressing impact on children, including his own, who are living in fear and separation from their families. The recent fatalities among children and civilians further underline the urgency of the crisis.
As international diplomats prepare to discuss peace in Egypt, Salha urges immediate action to end the aggression and provide essential medical aid. He calls for the cessation of violence and the urgent delivery of medical supplies and equipment, which have been severely restricted.
