Israeli airstrikes on Gaza have led to a devastating fire in Khan Younis, killing 11 people trapped inside their home. The attack was part of a broader escalation that has seen Israeli forces continue bombarding the besieged territory, leaving at least 25 Palestinians dead since dawn.
Meanwhile, in Yemen, U.S. forces have maintained their military campaign against Houthi targets. This follows fresh claims from the Houthis of launching new attacks against Israel and American aircraft carriers operating in the Red Sea.
Adding to the sorrow in Gaza, Palestinians are mourning the death of Pope Francis, who had consistently kept close video communication with the tiny Christian community in Gaza throughout the war.
The human toll in Gaza has reached staggering levels. According to the Gaza Government Media Office, more than 61,700 Palestinians have been killed since Israel’s assault began 18 months ago. This figure includes thousands presumed dead under the rubble. Separately, the Health Ministry in Gaza reported 51,266 confirmed fatalities and 116,991 injuries.
The conflict erupted after Hamas-led attacks on October 7, 2023, which killed 1,139 people in Israel and resulted in over 200 captives being taken.
