Trump Vows U.S. Defense of Poland and Baltic States Against Russian Aggression

NATO tensions rise as Moscow’s incursions test the alliance’s resolve in Eastern Europe.

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has declared that the United States would stand by Poland and the Baltic states if Russia were to launch future attacks, reaffirming Washington’s commitment to NATO’s collective defense.

When asked by reporters whether the U.S. would aid NATO allies amid Moscow’s escalating provocations, Trump responded decisively: “Yeah I would.” His statement comes on the heels of multiple Russian incursions into NATO airspace in recent weeks. Drones and fighter jets from Moscow have breached the skies over Estonia, Poland, and Romania, sparking widespread condemnation from the international community.

Under NATO’s Article 5, any assault on one member state is treated as an attack on all, compelling allies—including the U.S.—to respond. Trump has previously warned that such violations could spell “big trouble” but has yet to lay out a concrete plan for retaliation.

Meanwhile, Czech President Petr Pavel has urged the alliance to take a harder line, even suggesting NATO forces should shoot down Russian jets if necessary. His call highlights growing pressure for a stronger response to Moscow’s repeated breaches of NATO’s eastern flank.
