Military expert says new US missiles may boost Ukraine’s deep strike capabilities against Russia and Crimea
Ukraine may be preparing a surprise military move before winter, according to defense analyst Michael Clarke, who shared his insights during a recent Q&A session on the ongoing Russia–Ukraine war.
Clarke noted that the possible delivery of US-made Tomahawk long-range missiles could dramatically expand Ukraine’s strike capabilities. These weapons, known for their precision and low-altitude navigation, could allow Kyiv to target deep inside Russian territory and overwhelm air defenses.
Signs of a potential winter offensive
“The Ukrainians like to spring surprises,” Clarke said, suggesting that Kyiv might be planning an unexpected strike in the coming months.
He pointed out that Ukraine has already targeted radar stations and air defense sites, particularly in Crimea, to weaken Russia’s protective shield. “You can create a gap in the curtain of air defense,” he explained. “Then you put something into that gap to hit something even more valuable.”
Crimea and the Kerch Bridge in focus
Clarke believes Ukraine could stage a major attack in Crimea, possibly an air raid or amphibious assault designed to unsettle Russian forces. He even suggested that a strike on the Kerch Bridge, the strategic link between Crimea and Russia, is no longer inconceivable given Ukraine’s growing deep strike capabilities.
For now, both sides appear locked in a tense wait, but the coming weeks may reveal whether Ukraine has another surprise in store before the harsh winter sets
