Trump Expresses Optimism on Gaza Talks: “Hope to Get It Straightened Out This Week”

As U.S.-backed ceasefire negotiations stall in Doha, President Trump signals fresh momentum for a potential 60-day truce in Gaza.

JOINT BASE ANDREWS, United States – U.S. President Donald Trump voiced cautious optimism on Sunday about the ongoing diplomatic efforts to end the war in Gaza, stating that progress could come “over the next week.”

Speaking to reporters, Trump remarked, “Gaza — we are talking and hopefully we’re going to get that straightened out over the next week,” reflecting a tone similar to his earlier comments on July 4.

The United States is currently supporting a 60-day ceasefire proposal that would include the phased release of hostages, Israeli troop withdrawals from parts of Gaza, and the resumption of diplomatic negotiations aimed at ending the months-long conflict.

Despite Trump’s upbeat tone, talks in Doha have reportedly stalled, with major sticking points remaining between Israel and Hamas over the terms of a truce and future governance of Gaza.

The ceasefire plan remains one of the most detailed U.S.-backed frameworks yet, but it faces hurdles amid mutual distrust and ongoing violence in the region.

Trump’s remarks suggest the White House is still actively involved in trying to mediate a breakthrough, though critics question whether real progress can be made in such a short timeframe.

With Gaza’s humanitarian crisis deepening and pressure mounting internationally, the coming days may prove pivotal in determining whether diplomacy can halt the bloodshed — or if the conflict is set to drag on.
