Middle East Tensions Rise After Iran Attacks; US Strikes and Embassy Damage Intensify Crisis
The United States has urgently warned its citizens to leave nearly all countries across the Middle East, citing escalating security threats following renewed Iran conflict and expanding US strikes in the region.
The directive came as tensions surged after Iran launched retaliatory attacks on American military assets and diplomatic facilities.
State Department Issues Immediate Departure Warning
The U.S. State Department on Monday urged Americans to “DEPART NOW” from countries stretching from Egypt eastward due to escalating security concerns. The advisory includes Israel, the West Bank and Gaza, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Oman, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, Iran, and Egypt.
Assistant Secretary of State Mora Namdar posted the warning on X, citing “serious safety risks.”
Americans in the region were advised to contact the State Department’s 24/7 emergency line and register with the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) for updates.
Notably, the US has not arranged evacuation flights, and widespread airspace closures have disrupted commercial travel. Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport remains closed, and several countries, including Qatar, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait and Bahrain, have shut down their airspace.
Rubio: “Hardest Hits Are Yet to Come”
Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasized that the situation could worsen.
Speaking in Washington, Rubio said:
“The next phase will be even more punishing on Iran than it is right now.”
According to CNN, a senior US official indicated that Washington is preparing for a “major uptick” in attacks on Iran within the next 24 hours.
US officials believe initial strikes have significantly weakened Iran’s defenses, and say the next phase will target key elements of its military infrastructure, including missile production facilities, drone capabilities, and naval assets, in an effort to further limit Tehran’s ability to retaliate or project power in the region.
Trump and Netanyahu Push for Regime Pressure
US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have both stated that the ongoing military campaign aims to create conditions that could pressure Iranians to challenge the Islamic Republic.
Iran has responded with ballistic missile and drone attacks targeting Israel and Arab nations hosting US military bases.
US Embassy in Riyadh Hit
Early Tuesday, the US Embassy in Riyadh was struck by two drones, causing a limited fire and structural damage, according to Saudi Arabia’s Defense Ministry.
US outlet NewsNation reported that Trump vowed retaliation for the embassy strike and the deaths of US military personnel.
Trump said he does not believe “boots on the ground” will be necessary inside Iran.
Six US Troops Killed in Kuwait
The US military’s United States Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that six American service members have been killed and 18 seriously wounded since hostilities began.
The deaths occurred in Kuwait after an Iranian weapon penetrated allied air defenses and struck a fortified tactical operations center.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said the weapon “made it past allied air defenses” before hitting its target.
Two additional casualties were confirmed after US forces recovered the remains of previously unaccounted-for service members from a facility struck during Iran’s initial attacks.
Escalating Middle East Crisis
With commercial flights disrupted, embassies under threat, and military strikes intensifying, the Middle East crisis appears to be entering a more dangerous phase.
US officials warn that the coming days could bring further escalation as Washington prepares expanded operations against Iran’s military infrastructure.
