Sudan Conflict Intensifies as RSF Attacks Kordofan Towns, Targets El-Obeid and Border Areas

Sudan’s ongoing war has taken a dangerous turn as the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) launched a two-pronged attack in the Kordofan region, aiming to tighten control over strategic areas and isolate El-Obeid, a major hub in central Sudan.

According to sources, RSF fighters simultaneously attacked the city of Bara in North Kordofan and Dilling in South Kordofan, marking a coordinated push to seize key regions. Bara, located along a vital highway linking Khartoum to El-Obeid, was reportedly recaptured by RSF forces, though control of the city has shifted multiple times in recent weeks.

Further south, the city of Dilling came under attack from multiple directions, with Sudanese army sources claiming they successfully repelled the assault. The city had only recently been freed from a long RSF siege earlier this year.

The conflict in Kordofan has become one of the most intense battlefronts in Sudan’s three-year war, which has already killed tens of thousands and triggered the world’s largest hunger and displacement crisis. Ongoing drone strikes and artillery attacks continue to claim civilian lives almost daily.

At the center of the conflict lies El-Obeid, a strategic city positioned between Bara and Dilling. Capturing it would allow RSF to secure a critical east–west corridor, linking its strongholds in Darfur with other areas and bringing forces closer to the capital.

Meanwhile, fighting has also intensified along the Sudan–Chad border, where RSF fighters attacked the towns of Al-Tina and Kernoi. These clashes have forced tens of thousands to flee, worsening an already severe humanitarian crisis. Aid agencies warn that malnutrition levels have exceeded emergency thresholds in the region.

The conflict continues to spill across borders, with casualties reported in Chad following repeated clashes. As violence escalates, there are no clear signs of de-escalation, raising fears of further instability across the region.
