Ukraine war intensifies as Russian strikes hit multiple regions and damage energy infrastructure
Russia carried out a large-scale missile and drone attack on Ukraine on Saturday, killing at least six people and causing widespread damage across several regions, Ukrainian officials said.
President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that the attack targeted Kyiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Dnipro, and Mykolaiv, involving around 430 drones and 68 missiles, most of which were intercepted by air defense systems.
In the Kyiv region, five people were killed as strikes hit energy infrastructure, while also damaging homes, schools, and businesses. At least 15 people were injured. Later, in the southeastern city of Zaporizhzhia, guided bomb attacks killed one person and injured three more.
Footage from affected areas showed rescue teams working through rubble, with buildings heavily damaged and windows shattered. Residents described scenes of panic and destruction as explosions rocked neighborhoods.
Ukraine’s Energy Ministry said power outages affected six regions, adding to the country’s ongoing struggle with infrastructure damage caused by repeated Russian attacks.
Zelensky warned that Russia may try to exploit global conflicts to intensify its assault on Ukraine, urging international partners to increase air defense support.
Meanwhile, tensions spilled beyond Ukraine’s borders. Poland scrambled fighter jets to protect its airspace, while Moldova reported a Russian drone entering its territory, raising concerns about regional security.
As the Ukraine war continues, civilians face growing hardship, with ongoing attacks on infrastructure and residential areas deepening the humanitarian crisis.
