UNIFIL peacekeepers killed amid southern Lebanon hostilities, Security Council calls for accountability

The United Nations Security Council has issued a joint statement condemning the deaths of three Indonesian peacekeepers serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). The council expressed concern over recent incidents, including two deadly explosions, that have affected UNIFIL operations in southern Lebanon.

In their statement, the 15-member council extended wishes for a speedy recovery to the injured and paid tribute to the dedication and service of all UN peacekeepers, who risk their lives to maintain international peace. Members, including the United States, reaffirmed full support for UNIFIL and emphasized their commitment to Lebanon’s sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity, and unity.

The statement did not identify the perpetrators of the attacks and made no mention of Israel or Hezbollah, despite ongoing hostilities along the Blue Line, where UNIFIL operates.
