Gaza City – Israeli forces bombed a school-turned-shelter in Gaza City, sparking a deadly fire that killed at least 30 Palestinians, including several children. The strike is the latest in a series of attacks as Israel’s military operations in Gaza continue to intensify.
The targeted building was being used by displaced civilians seeking refuge from ongoing airstrikes. Footage from the aftermath shows charred debris and rescue workers searching for survivors under the rubble.
Meanwhile, Spain has called on the international community to consider sanctions against Israel, hosting a summit in Madrid with foreign ministers from over 20 European and Arab nations. The talks are aimed at reviving efforts toward a two-state solution amid growing global concern over the scale of violence in Gaza.
In a related development, Yemen’s Houthi rebels claimed responsibility for launching a missile at Israel’s main Ben Gurion International Airport. The Israeli military reported that the projectile was intercepted before impact.
According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, at least 53,939 Palestinians have been killed and over 122,000 wounded since the conflict began. The Government Media Office now estimates the total death toll to exceed 61,700, factoring in thousands still missing under collapsed buildings.
The war began following the Hamas-led attacks on Israel on October 7, 2023, which killed 1,139 people and resulted in over 200 hostages being taken.
As violence escalates and diplomatic efforts gain urgency, the humanitarian toll continues to mount with no immediate resolution in sight.
