Bombings across Iran escalate as Kamal Kharrazi injured and his wife killed
An apparent assassination strike has left former Iranian foreign minister Kamal Kharrazi gravely wounded, while his wife was killed, amid widespread bombings across Iran targeting both military and civilian infrastructure.
Kharrazi, who heads the Strategic Council on Foreign Relations and previously advised the late supreme leader, was reportedly targeted in an operation that has raised international concern. No group, including Israeli or American forces, has claimed responsibility. Iranian authorities have warned of potential retaliation against American interests, particularly technology and AI facilities, if further attacks occur.
The past four weeks have seen a series of blasts across major Iranian cities, including Isfahan, Shiraz, Tehran, Larestan, and Bandar Abbas. While the Americans claim to be hitting munitions depots, civilian infrastructure, including hospitals and power facilities, has also been affected. In Larestan, at least four people were killed.
Analysts note that the scale and precision of the attacks indicate a targeted strategy, raising fears of further escalations in the Iran-US-Israel conflict.
