Gaza Crisis Deepens: Over 90 Killed in a Day Amid Mounting Starvation Deaths

Israel’s bombardment of Gaza reached a deadly peak on Wednesday, killing over 90 Palestinians in a single day—including dozens seeking aid. As hunger spreads and malnutrition claims more lives, calls for international action intensify amid a deepening humanitarian catastrophe.

Israeli airstrikes leave dozens dead, including aid seekers, as malnutrition-related fatalities continue to rise across Gaza.

Israel’s ongoing assault on the Gaza Strip intensified on Wednesday, leaving at least 91 Palestinians dead in a single day. Among the casualties were 77 civilians who were reportedly seeking humanitarian aid when Israeli forces opened fire near the Zikim crossing in northern Gaza.

In one of the deadliest single incidents, Israeli forces killed at least 51 aid seekers and wounded 648 others as they approached the crossing in search of essential supplies. The attack underscores the growing desperation among Gaza’s population, who are increasingly reliant on sporadic aid deliveries for survival.

Meanwhile, Gaza’s overwhelmed hospitals have confirmed seven more deaths due to famine and malnutrition, bringing the total hunger-related death toll to 154 since October 2023. Of these, 89 were children. The humanitarian crisis continues to escalate, with food, water, and medical supplies critically scarce across the enclave.

Amid the worsening conditions, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced that Canada will formally recognise a Palestinian state at the upcoming United Nations General Assembly in September. Carney emphasized the urgency of a two-state solution to resolve the long-standing conflict and prevent further bloodshed.

The war, which began following the Hamas-led attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, has now killed at least 60,138 Palestinians and injured more than 146,000. On the Israeli side, the initial assault left 1,139 people dead and saw more than 200 taken captive.

As the violence rages on and humanitarian conditions deteriorate, the international community faces mounting pressure to intervene and push for a political resolution.
