Gaza Strip – May 21, 2025 — A newly announced aid distribution body, the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), has come under fire just days before it begins operations. Endorsed by the United States and approved by Israel, the GHF is being positioned as a critical tool to address the deepening humanitarian crisis in Gaza. However, critics say it risks politicizing aid and lacks the capacity to manage the scale of the disaster.
According to U.S. officials, the GHF represents a fresh mechanism to ensure humanitarian relief reaches Gaza’s 2.3 million besieged residents. Yet humanitarian groups and United Nations officials are voicing strong concerns. They argue that the foundation is ill-equipped to deal with the catastrophic fallout of Israel’s ongoing blockade, which has now extended beyond two months.
Aid organizations warn that the GHF may further complicate efforts on the ground by bypassing established humanitarian channels and failing to meet urgent needs. Many also see the move as a political maneuver designed to deflect criticism from Israel’s restrictions on aid and avoid accountability for the dire conditions in the enclave.
The GHF has announced plans to begin operations by the end of May, but skepticism over its effectiveness and neutrality continues to mount.
