The Israeli Air Force carried out an airstrike in northern Lebanon on Wednesday, targeting a senior Hezbollah operative involved in smuggling Iranian weapons to the terror group. The strike, which took place in the al-Qusayr region, was directed at a key member of Hezbollah’s Unit 4400, responsible for transporting arms into Lebanon.
According to the IDF, the operative had “repeatedly violated” the ceasefire terms and was actively planning further weapons smuggling. The attack is part of ongoing Israeli efforts to curb Hezbollah’s military build-up along its northern border.
Lebanese media reported that the drone strike hit a vehicle on the Hermel-Qusayr road, killing one person and injuring another. A similar Israeli strike the previous day in eastern Lebanon’s Janta region killed two Hezbollah operatives involved in weapons production and storage, according to the Israeli military.
The IDF stated that Hezbollah’s continued smuggling of arms poses a direct threat to Israel’s security and violates the truce established in November. The ceasefire agreement, which ended a months-long escalation between Israel and Hezbollah, required the withdrawal of Israeli forces from southern Lebanon and the dismantling of Hezbollah’s military infrastructure in the region. However, tensions persist, with both sides accusing each other of breaching the agreement.
