New Delhi/Islamabad — India and Pakistan have exchanged heavy fire along the Line of Control (LoC) following India’s launch of Operation Sindoor, escalating tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.
According to Pakistan’s military, Indian missile strikes hit multiple targets in Punjab province and Pakistan-administered Kashmir, killing at least 26 people and injuring dozens. Pakistan claims civilian areas and mosques were struck, calling the assault an “act of war” and vowing a strong retaliation.
India has defended the operation, stating that the attacks targeted “terror training camps” allegedly operating within Pakistan’s borders. Indian officials also reported that at least 10 people were killed and many others injured in Indian-administered Kashmir due to retaliatory Pakistani fire.
The flare-up comes in the wake of a deadly April 22 attack in Pahalgam, in Indian-administered Kashmir, which claimed multiple lives. India has accused Pakistan of orchestrating the attack—a claim Islamabad has firmly denied.
As both countries brace for further escalation, the international community is urging restraint to prevent a deeper conflict in the already volatile region.
