Haifa apartment hit as Iran-Israel missile tensions escalate
HAIFA, Israel: Two people are confirmed dead and two remain missing after an Iranian missile strike destroyed part of an apartment building in Haifa, local authorities reported.
Search and rescue teams have been working through the night to locate the missing residents. The building took the heaviest damage, with half of it destroyed and the remainder unstable, raising the risk of collapse and complicating rescue efforts.
Haifa has long been a strategic target in the ongoing Iran-Israel tensions. The city sits within range of Hezbollah rockets fired from Lebanon and is frequently hit by Iranian missiles due to its industrial and strategic significance.
During the early hours of Monday, authorities reported three missile salvoes from Iran. Most were intercepted, while some fell in open areas. The Haifa strike was part of four salvoes fired on Sunday, including one that hit an industrial and chemical park near Beersheba, raising concerns over potential attacks on critical infrastructure.
Officials warn that if the situation escalates further, more residential and industrial areas could be targeted, deepening the humanitarian and security crisis in Israel.
