June 6, 2025 — Tensions across the Middle East escalated further as Israel carried out airstrikes in the southern suburbs of Beirut and several locations in South Lebanon late Thursday. The strikes targeted Dahiyeh, a stronghold of Hezbollah, prompting Lebanese President Michel Moawad to condemn the action as a “blatant violation” of the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah.
The attacks come amid growing international alarm over the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza. According to the United Nations, more than 2,700 children in Gaza are now suffering from acute malnutrition—an alarming rise since February. The UN has warned that the situation is deteriorating rapidly, with aid agencies struggling to maintain operations under the ongoing conflict.
The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, which paused its activities for over a day following deadly Israeli military strikes on aid-seekers, has resumed food distribution at two locations in the Strip. The pause came after hundreds of civilians waiting for aid were reported killed or injured, further highlighting the dire conditions faced by Gaza’s population.
According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, the death toll from Israel’s ongoing war in the enclave has reached at least 54,677, with over 125,530 people wounded. The conflict was sparked by the Hamas-led attacks on Israel on October 7, 2023, which killed an estimated 1,139 people and resulted in more than 200 hostages being taken.
As diplomatic efforts to restore a lasting ceasefire remain stalled, the humanitarian fallout continues to deepen on both sides of the border.
