Death Toll Surges Amid Escalating Violence and Humanitarian Catastrophe in Gaza
At least 72 Palestinians have been killed in the past 24 hours across Gaza, according to hospital sources reporting to Al Jazeera, as Israel continues its intensive military operations in the territory.
The humanitarian toll is becoming increasingly severe. Gaza’s Government Media Office reports that at least 549 Palestinians have been killed over the past month while attempting to access humanitarian aid. A further 4,066 people have been injured at or near distribution sites backed by the US and the Israeli-supported Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), raising urgent concerns about the safety of civilians seeking food and medical supplies.
As the Israel-Gaza war intensifies, regional dynamics are also shifting. Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, stated that Tehran had delivered a “slap to America’s face” by targeting a US airbase amid the ongoing conflict. He affirmed that Iran would never “surrender” in the face of Western or Israeli pressure, signaling heightened regional tension.
According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, the Israeli military campaign has now killed at least 56,259 Palestinians and wounded 132,458 since the start of the war. Meanwhile, Israeli officials report that 1,139 people were killed during the October 7 attacks launched by Hamas, with over 200 individuals still held captive.
As the Israel-Gaza war shows no sign of abating, the civilian population remains trapped between relentless violence and a collapsing humanitarian system.
