The Israeli Ministry of Defense announced on Thursday that it has finalized a $5.2 billion agreement with Boeing to acquire 25 next-generation F-15 fighter jets. This deal forms part of a larger US aid package approved by the American government and Congress earlier this year and includes an option to purchase an additional 25 aircraft in the future.
Deliveries of the new F-15IA models are scheduled to start in 2031, with Boeing expected to supply 4 to 6 jets each year. The aircraft will feature integrated Israeli weapons systems, enhanced range, and expanded payload capabilities. These upgrades aim to bolster the Israeli Air Force’s strategic advantage in confronting emerging threats across the Middle East.
The Defense Ministry emphasized the significance of the acquisition, noting that the new F-15 squadron, alongside an additional F-35 squadron procured earlier this year, marks a substantial upgrade to Israel’s air force capabilities. According to Eyal Zamir, Director General of the Defense Ministry, the enhancements will play a critical role in addressing both current and future challenges in the region.
In light of the recent conflict in Gaza, which began on October 7, 2023, Israel has signed defense procurement deals totaling nearly $40 billion, with a focus on acquiring advanced weaponry and substantial ammunition supplies. Zamir highlighted that, while Israel is addressing immediate military needs, it is also committed to long-term investments in strategic capabilities.
For Boeing, this agreement represents the second significant contract with Israel in 2024. Earlier this year, El Al Israel Airlines signed a contract with Boeing to purchase up to 31 737 MAX aircraft, valued at up to $2.5 billion. Ido Nehushtan, President of Boeing Israel, reaffirmed Boeing’s long-standing partnership with Israel, promising continued support for the delivery of the advanced F-15IA jets through standard military procurement channels.
