Rafah, Gaza – June 3, 2025 — At least 27 Palestinians were killed and dozens more injured in an Israeli attack targeting a humanitarian aid distribution site in southern Gaza’s Rafah governorate, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry. The site was operated by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), a group reportedly backed by both Israel and the United States.
The strike occurred as desperate civilians gathered to receive food and supplies amid the ongoing humanitarian catastrophe. The Health Ministry says this is just the latest in a string of fatal incidents at aid points since May 27, when GHF began operations in the war-ravaged enclave.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres condemned the attack and called for an independent investigation into what he described as “mass shootings of aid seekers.” According to Guterres, such incidents have been reported daily since GHF commenced its operations in Gaza.
In a separate development, the Israeli military confirmed that three of its soldiers were killed in northern Gaza’s Jabalia area. The deaths mark one of the deadliest attacks on Israeli forces since the ceasefire with Hamas ended in March.
The ongoing Israeli military campaign in Gaza has now killed at least 54,381 Palestinians and wounded 124,054, according to the enclave’s Health Ministry. On the other side, the Hamas-led attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, left 1,139 people dead and over 200 taken captive.
