Israel has issued a stern warning to Syria, stating that it will take severe action against Syrian territory if it continues to help Hezbollah rearm. The warning comes after a series of Israeli strikes on border crossings between Lebanon and Syria aimed at disrupting Hezbollah’s weapons smuggling routes, while a ceasefire with the militant group took effect Wednesday.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated that despite the truce, they would continue to target any efforts to deliver weapons to Hezbollah, including those passing through Syria. IDF Spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari emphasized the military’s resolve, saying that Israel would “act” against any attempts to transfer weapons to the terror group.
A senior military official stressed that Syria would “pay a direct price” for aiding Hezbollah’s rearming efforts. “Not only will the convoys be attacked, but there will be consequences for Syria as well,” the official warned.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also weighed in, cautioning Syrian President Bashar Assad that he is “playing with fire” by allowing Iranian shipments to Hezbollah.
In the hours leading up to the ceasefire, Israeli forces carried out airstrikes on three border crossings between Lebanon and Syria used by Hezbollah for smuggling weapons. Additionally, Israel destroyed Hezbollah’s largest underground precision-guided missile manufacturing facility in Lebanon’s Beqaa Valley. The complex, built with Iranian support, played a significant role in producing and storing precision missiles, which Israel says are being used by Hezbollah to bolster its military capabilities.
The IDF’s efforts to disrupt Hezbollah’s weapons infrastructure are part of a broader campaign to prevent the terror group from rebuilding its missile, rocket, and drone stockpiles. Israel has long expressed concern over Iranian influence in Syria, particularly regarding efforts to arm Hezbollah, a key Iranian ally.
Israeli officials highlighted the ongoing threat posed by Hezbollah’s rearming activities, noting that the terror group retains a significant stockpile of rockets and missiles. The IDF has made it clear that preventing Hezbollah from rearming is a top priority to avoid future conflicts with the group.
