The Israeli military announced on Wednesday that it had successfully shot down a drone that was carrying weapons and had crossed over from Egypt into Israeli airspace.
Egyptian security officials, when asked about the incident, stated they had no information on the matter. This follows two similar incidents in October, where Israel claimed to have downed two drones that were also smuggling weapons from Egypt.
Israeli officials have previously reported that Palestinian militant group Hamas used tunnels beneath the border to smuggle arms from Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula. However, Egypt maintains that it dismantled these tunnel networks years ago and has since established a buffer zone and border fortifications to prevent such smuggling activities.
