April 24, 2025 – Gaza Strip | At least 45 Palestinians were killed and more than 100 injured in a fresh wave of Israeli airstrikes on civilian shelters across Gaza on Wednesday, according to medical sources cited by Al Jazeera. The latest bombardments, which began overnight and continued into the early morning hours, add to an already devastating toll in the besieged enclave.
The Gaza Government Media Office now estimates that more than 61,700 people have died, accounting for both confirmed deaths and thousands believed to be buried beneath rubble. This figure significantly exceeds the earlier official death toll of 51,305, with 117,096 wounded since Israel launched its military campaign 18 months ago following the October 7, 2023, Hamas-led attacks on Israeli territory.
Israel’s domestic political rhetoric also intensified this week, with far-right former National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir claiming that members of the U.S. Republican Party support his controversial stance advocating for the bombing of food and aid depots in Gaza. The remarks have fueled widespread condemnation from international humanitarian groups and raised further concerns about the safety of civilians and aid workers in the conflict zone.
The Israeli government maintains its military actions are in response to the October 7 attacks, which resulted in 1,139 Israeli deaths and over 200 hostages being taken by Hamas fighters. However, rights organizations and foreign governments continue to call for restraint and a renewed push toward ceasefire negotiations amid mounting civilian casualties.
As the humanitarian crisis in Gaza deepens, pressure is growing on global leaders to intervene and prevent further loss of life.
