Massive Russian Missile Attack Hits Kyiv, Causing Power Outages and Chaos

Ukraine’s capital Kyiv reels under a large-scale missile and drone strike as Russia targets energy infrastructure, leaving neighborhoods in darkness and residents injured.

Ukraine’s capital Kyiv was plunged into darkness early this morning as Russian forces launched a massive missile and drone attack, striking residential areas and critical energy infrastructure. Officials described it as one of the most intense assaults in months, with missiles raining down “one after another.”

Kyiv Under Fire

According to Serhii Popko, head of Kyiv’s military administration, the city came under ballistic missile attack, forcing air defenses into overdrive as explosions echoed across the skyline. Kyiv’s mayor, Vitali Klitschko, confirmed that at least nine people were injured, five of whom were hospitalized after high-rise buildings and power facilities were hit.

Districts on the east bank of the Dnipro River suffered the worst damage, experiencing widespread power cuts and water supply disruptions. Photos and videos circulating on social media showed entire neighborhoods shrouded in darkness, with residents relying on flashlights and emergency generators.

Russia Targets Energy Before Winter

The attack marks the latest in a series of Russian strikes on Ukraine’s energy grid as the country braces for another harsh winter. In recent weeks, Moscow has intensified its bombardment of energy infrastructure, hitting gas production facilities and power stations across Ukraine.

Last week, a massive missile and drone barrage struck several of the nation’s main gas plants, causing what officials described as “considerable damage.” This renewed offensive comes more than three and a half years into the war, as Russia continues to pressure Ukraine by crippling its energy resilience.

City in Darkness, Spirit Unbroken

Despite the destruction, Kyiv’s emergency services are working around the clock to restore electricity and assist residents affected by the strikes. Local officials have urged citizens to conserve power and remain in shelters until air raid alerts are lifted.

As the capital endures yet another night of terror, Ukrainians continue to show remarkable resilience — determined to keep their lights, and their spirit, burning.
