Police arrested several pro-Palestinian and anti-Israel protesters at the University of Minnesota on Monday after a group of students briefly occupied Morrill Hall, according to protest organizers. Around 30 protesters from the university’s chapter of Students for a Democratic Society entered the administrative building, while a larger crowd gathered outside.
The protesters renamed the building “Halimy Hall” in honor of 19-year-old Palestinian TikTok creator Medo Halimy, who died in an alleged Israeli airstrike in August. The Israeli military claimed it was not aware of the strike.
University officials issued an alert warning of property damage and restricted access to Morrill Hall, advising those inside to exit safely and others to avoid the area.
A university spokesperson and police did not provide further updates regarding the arrests. Ryan Mattson, a media liaison for the protest group, confirmed that some protesters were arrested but could not specify how many.
