Kremlin Denies Ukraine Talks Restart Despite Putin Envoy US Visit
The Kremlin has firmly stated that a recent visit to the United States by an envoy of Vladimir Putin does not signal the resumption of Ukraine peace talks, despite growing speculation.
According to officials, Kirill Dmitriev, a key envoy focused on economic cooperation, traveled to the U.S. and held discussions with members of Donald Trump’s administration. While reports suggested potential dialogue around a peace deal in Ukraine, the Kremlin clarified that these meetings were strictly related to economic matters, not diplomacy over the ongoing war.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov emphasized that no negotiations are currently underway, reiterating that Dmitriev is not involved in conflict resolution efforts. “This is not a resumption of negotiations,” he stated, underlining the government’s position.
Meanwhile, a brief 32-hour ceasefire announced by Moscow for Orthodox Easter has added a humanitarian dimension to the conflict. Volodymyr Zelenskiy confirmed that Ukraine would observe the temporary pause, signaling limited cooperation on humanitarian grounds.
Despite this, Russia maintains that it is seeking a “lasting and sustainable peace” rather than short-term ceasefires. Peskov suggested that progress depends heavily on decisions made by Kyiv, placing responsibility on Ukraine’s leadership to move toward a resolution.
As the Ukraine conflict continues, the absence of formal talks highlights ongoing diplomatic deadlock, even as humanitarian gestures and backchannel engagements persist.
