Russia-Ukraine War Escalates as Kremlin Claims British Role in Bryansk Missile Attack
Russia has accused Britain of playing a role in a deadly missile strike in Bryansk, claiming that British Storm Shadow missiles were used in the attack that killed several civilians.
According to Russian officials, the strike on Tuesday left at least six people dead and 37 others injured in what local authorities described as a “terrorist missile attack.” The incident took place in Bryansk, a Russian region near the Ukrainian border.
The Kremlin said the use of the advanced missiles would not have been possible without assistance from British specialists.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters that Moscow was fully aware of the alleged involvement.
“It is obvious that the launch of these missiles was impossible without British specialists,” Peskov said. “We know this well, and Russia will take Britain’s role into account.”
However, London has not issued an immediate response to the accusation. Russia has previously claimed that Ukraine relies on Western expertise, satellite data, and targeting support to launch long-range weapons deep into Russian territory.
Ukraine Says Military Facility Was Targeted
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy offered a different account of the strike. In his nightly address, he said Ukrainian forces targeted a Russian factory involved in producing missile components.
“Our fighters struck one of the important Russian military factories in Bryansk,” Zelenskyy said, citing information from Ukraine’s top military commander.
He added that the facility produced electronics and parts used in Russian missiles, which Ukraine says have been used in repeated attacks on its cities and civilian infrastructure.
New Attack Reported in Kharkiv
Meanwhile, fighting inside Ukraine continued as local officials reported another deadly strike in Kharkiv, the country’s second-largest city.
Kharkiv mayor Ihor Terekhov said a Russian drone attack hit a civilian business on Wednesday, killing two people and injuring five others.
Regional governor Oleh Syniehubov said the injured were in serious condition, and the strike triggered a large fire at the facility.
Located just 30 kilometers from the Russian border, Kharkiv has faced repeated attacks since Russia launched its full-scale invasion in February 2022.
Peace Talks Continue Without Breakthrough
Despite ongoing fighting, Russia and Ukraine have continued diplomatic talks with international mediation.
Negotiations supported by envoys from U.S. President Donald Trump were held earlier this year in Abu Dhabi and Geneva. Officials say another round of trilateral talks could take place in Istanbul, although no date has been confirmed.
For now, there is no clear sign of a breakthrough, and tensions remain high as both sides continue military operations.
