Russia-Ukraine War: Key Events on Day 1,193

Kyiv/Moscow – As the war enters day 1,193, intense fighting and escalating cross-border incidents continue to claim lives and displace civilians across both Ukraine and Russia.

In Russia’s Bryansk region, which borders Ukraine, a devastating train derailment resulted in seven deaths and injured 30 people. According to Governor Alexander Bogomaz and Moscow Railway, the derailment was caused by a bridge collapse due to “illegal interference in transport operations.” While Ukraine’s military has not officially commented, the incident adds to a growing list of transport disruptions on Russian territory.

In Ukraine, deadly Russian attacks continued to target civilian areas. A child was killed and another person injured in the village of Dolynka in the Zaporizhia region, local authorities reported. Meanwhile, in the southern Kherson region, a man was killed by Russian shelling, according to Governor Oleksandr Prokudin.

The Ukrainian Air Force reported a wave of aerial assaults overnight, stating that Russian forces launched 109 drones and five missiles across Ukrainian territory. Ukrainian defenses successfully intercepted and destroyed 42 of the drones.

On the ground, Russia’s military announced the capture of two villages—Vodolahy in the Sumy region and Novopil in the Donetsk region. The offensive comes amid heightened tensions in the northeast, where Ukrainian authorities have ordered the evacuation of 11 more villages in Sumy, citing the presence of approximately 50,000 Russian troops amassed near the border.
