Daejeon factory fire leaves dozens seriously hurt as emergency response intensifies in South Korea
A major factory fire in South Korea has left at least 50 people injured, with 35 reported in serious condition, according to local media reports.
The blaze broke out at a car parts factory in Daejeon, a city located about 160 km south of Seoul, prompting authorities to launch a large-scale emergency response. The National Fire Agency issued a national mobilisation order to contain the fire, signaling the severity of the situation.
Approximately 240 firefighters and emergency personnel were deployed to battle the flames, as officials warned that the number of casualties could rise.
South Korea’s Prime Minister Kim Min-seok directed emergency teams to prioritize saving lives and preventing further injuries, underlining the urgency of the crisis.
While firefighters continue efforts to bring the blaze under control, authorities have yet to confirm the cause of the fire. Officials have also not ruled out the possibility of additional casualties as rescue operations continue.
The incident highlights ongoing concerns about industrial safety and emergency preparedness in large-scale manufacturing facilities.
