Trump Halts Tomahawk Missile Deal with Ukraine as Fighting Escalates in Pokrovsk

Amid intensifying Russia-Ukraine war battles in eastern Ukraine, U.S. President Donald Trump says he won’t send Tomahawk missiles to Kyiv “for now,” as Putin’s threats raise fears of wider conflict.

In a move that could shape the next phase of the Russia-Ukraine war, U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that he is not currently considering a deal to sell Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine for strikes inside Russia — though he hinted that his position could change.

“Not Really — At Least for Now”

Speaking to reporters aboard his flight from Palm Beach to Washington, Trump was asked directly if he planned to provide Kyiv with long-range Tomahawk missiles.
No, not really,” he replied, adding that he “could change his mind” depending on future developments.

The remarks come after weeks of speculation that Washington might expand Ukraine’s weapons arsenal to include the Tomahawk cruise missile, capable of traveling up to 2,500 kilometers — enough to reach deep into Russian territory, including Moscow.

NATO and Washington Weigh the Options

The missile issue was reportedly discussed during Trump’s October 22 meeting at the White House with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. Rutte later told reporters that the topic was still “under review” and that any final decision would rest with the United States.

While some analysts see the Tomahawk deal as a potential game-changer for Ukraine’s defense, others warn it could trigger severe retaliation from Moscow, especially after Putin’s recent threats against Western nations supplying long-range weaponry.

Heavy Fighting in Pokrovsk

Meanwhile, on the ground in eastern Ukraine, fierce battles continue in the Donetsk region, where Ukrainian forces are defending the strategic frontline town of Pokrovsk.

Ukraine’s military chief, General Oleksandr Syrskyi, said his troops were facing “multi-thousand” Russian forces attempting to cut key supply lines. To strengthen the defense, elite special forces have been deployed to the area, highlighting the intensity of the current fighting.

A War Balancing on the Edge

Trump’s hesitation on the Tomahawk missile deal underscores the delicate balance between deterrence and escalation that continues to define U.S. and NATO strategy. As the situation in Pokrovsk grows more dire, Kyiv is once again calling for stronger Western support — while Washington weighs how far it’s willing to go.
