US weapons to Ukraine may be diverted amid rising Middle East tensions, Zelensky warns

The Ukraine war could face a major shift as Donald Trump suggested the United States may divert weapons away from Kyiv and toward the Middle East conflict, raising concerns about continued military support.

Speaking about US military resources, Trump indicated that ammunition supplies could be reassigned depending on global priorities. “We have tremendous amounts of ammunition… sometimes we take from one and use for another,” he said, signaling a possible reallocation of defense support.

Zelensky Urges Europe to Stay Focused

In response, Volodymyr Zelensky warned that shifting attention away from Ukraine could allow Vladimir Putin to gain an advantage.

Zelensky called on European nations to remain united and vigilant, stressing that the growing crisis in the Middle East risks distracting global attention from the ongoing war in Ukraine.

“We all need to mobilise… all of Europe, not just Ukraine,” he said, highlighting the urgency of sustained support.

Concerns Over Russia’s Economic Gains

Zelensky also pointed to economic developments benefiting Russia, claiming that recent changes in US policy—particularly the partial lifting of sanctions on Russian oil—have already generated billions in additional revenue for Moscow.

He warned that this financial boost could intensify the conflict, as Russia may use the funds to support its military operations and strengthen alliances, including ties with Iran.

Global Conflicts Intersect

The situation underscores how the Ukraine war and Middle East tensions are increasingly interconnected. Analysts say any reduction in US support for Ukraine could have significant geopolitical consequences, potentially shifting the balance on the battlefield.

At the same time, the US continues to supply weapons through NATO channels, but uncertainty remains over how long current levels of support can be sustained if priorities change.
