US President proposes ceasefire and rebuilding strategy amid ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict
NEW YORK, USA — US President Donald Trump is set to present a plan to end the Gaza war to leaders from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, Egypt, Jordan, Turkiye, Indonesia, and Pakistan on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly (UNGA). The proposal aims to discuss ceasefire, troop deployment, and reconstruction efforts in the mostly destroyed Palestinian enclave.
The plan reportedly outlines a future Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, involvement of the Palestinian Authority (PA), and regional peacekeeping contributions, while demanding Hamas be disarmed. Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has already expressed readiness to provide peacekeeping forces in Gaza, emphasizing international support for the initiative.
Despite earlier ceasefire progress, ongoing Israeli air strikes and the blockade have left tens of thousands of Palestinians displaced, while civilian casualties continue to mount. The Gaza Health Ministry reports over 65,000 deaths, mostly civilians, since the conflict began nearly two years ago.
Reports indicate Hamas may present a 60-day truce proposal to Trump through Qatar, which could facilitate the release of some captives, though neither party has officially confirmed the plan.
As Trump and Qatar’s Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani prepare to address the UNGA, Gaza continues to face intense bombardment, destruction of homes and infrastructure, and worsening humanitarian conditions. The international community watches closely, hoping diplomacy can provide a path to peace and reconstruction amid one of the world’s most protracted conflicts.
