Russian officials report drone intercepts over Moscow and border regions as Ukraine continues cross-border operations
Ukraine reportedly targeted Moscow with drones for the second consecutive night, according to the Russian defence ministry and Moscow’s mayor. The latest drone attacks signal a continued escalation in the conflict, with both sides denying direct targeting of civilians.
The Russian defence ministry said its air defence units destroyed 17 Ukrainian drones overnight, including one heading directly towards Moscow. Another 13 drones were intercepted over the Kaluga region, which borders the Moscow region to the northeast. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin confirmed on Telegram that emergency services were sent to the site where the drone approaching Moscow fell. No immediate damage was reported.
The remaining three drones were intercepted over the Bryansk region, near the Ukrainian border. Bryansk Governor Alexander Bogomaz reported that one civilian was hospitalized following the attack.
This incident follows Monday’s wave of attacks, when Russia claimed it had downed 34 Ukrainian drones targeting Moscow. While both sides insist they are avoiding civilian areas, the conflict has already resulted in thousands of deaths, mostly among Ukrainians.
The recent strikes highlight the ongoing tension and cross-border drone operations as Ukraine continues to challenge Russian positions inside its territory.
