Novorossiysk hit by Ukrainian strikes, damaging homes and energy infrastructure

MOSCOW; Ukrainian drone attacks on Russia’s Black Sea port city of Novorossiysk injured at least eight people, including two children, and caused damage to residential buildings, Russian authorities reported on Monday.

Officials did not confirm whether Russia’s largest Black Sea oil port was directly hit. Novorossiysk hosts key oil terminals, including the Caspian Pipeline Consortium’s hub, which exports oil from Kazakhstan and is partly owned by U.S. companies like Chevron and ExxonMobil.

Russia’s military said that air defense units intercepted 148 Ukrainian drones over a three-hour period. Emergency crews worked to restore electricity to nearly half a million households affected by the strikes.

The mayor of Novorossiysk, Andrei Kravchenko, said debris from drones struck a high-rise apartment building. Meanwhile, in Russian-controlled Donetsk and Makiivka, repair crews restored power after attacks on energy infrastructure, and outages continued in parts of the Zaporizhzhia region.

The attacks are part of Ukraine’s ongoing effort to target Russian energy facilities and disrupt oil exports, a critical source of revenue for Moscow.
