Video Shows Interceptor Rockets Fired in Northern Iraq During Iranian Missile Strikes

Video obtained by CBS News shows air defense rockets launching from near a U.S. military installation at Erbil International Airport in northern Iraq on Saturday, as Iran carried out ballistic missile attacks on US bases across the Middle East.

The footage captures interceptor rockets being fired from an area close to the airport, which serves as a base for U.S. forces and coalition partners engaged in operations against ISIS.

According to local security sources in Erbil, anti-air systems successfully intercepted incoming rockets and drones targeting both the U.S. base and the newly constructed American consulate in the city.

It remains unclear whether the incoming fire originated directly from Iran or from Iranian-backed proxy militias operating in Iraq.

The incident comes amid escalating regional tensions, as Iran continues retaliatory strikes following recent U.S. and Israeli military actions. Erbil, a strategic hub in northern Iraq, has previously faced attacks linked to Iranian-aligned groups.

An image from the video shows air defense rockets streaking into the sky near the base as part of efforts to protect American personnel and facilities.

The situation remains fluid, with further developments expected as the broader Iran attacks continue to unfold.
