Aircraft destroyed but no casualties reported in Baghdad attack
Iraq’s Mohamad Alaa air base, located next to Baghdad International Airport, was hit by rockets earlier today, destroying an aircraft but causing no casualties, the Iraqi Defence Ministry said.
The ministry added that authorities are assessing the damage and working to identify the source of the attack.
An Al Jazeera correspondent reported loud explosions in Baghdad and said that the city’s air defence system was unable to intercept the rockets, which struck an A32B Iraqi special forces transport plane, setting it ablaze.
The incident underscores continued security risks near Baghdad’s critical military and civilian infrastructure.
