Wang Yi and Sergey Lavrov urge end to Iran war as Middle East tensions escalate
Top diplomats from China and Russia have held urgent talks on the Iran war, expressing deep concern over the escalating conflict and calling for an immediate ceasefire.
Wang Yi and Sergey Lavrov spoke by phone to discuss the deteriorating situation in the Middle East, according to Fu Cong.
In a statement, Wang Yi emphasized that both countries, as permanent members of the UN Security Council, should take a fair and balanced approach and work to build international consensus on the crisis.
He warned that the situation continues to worsen, with fighting intensifying across the region. Wang also stressed that the only way to ensure stability, including safe navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, is to achieve a ceasefire and end the fighting quickly.
Lavrov echoed similar concerns, highlighting Moscow’s position that military operations must stop immediately to prevent further escalation.
The discussion reflects growing global pressure to de-escalate the Iran conflict, as fears rise of a wider regional war if diplomatic efforts fail.
