Cardinal warns of nuclear-scale destruction and moral failure
MANILA, Philippines:
Cardinal Pablo Virgilio David, a leading Filipino Catholic figure, has called on Americans to prevent a war against Iran, warning that escalation could unleash unprecedented destruction.
In an open letter on Facebook, the Cardinal said the responsibility for threats of war does not lie with one leader alone. “A leader does not act alone. A leader is chosen, carried, and enabled,” he wrote.
David also cautioned against repeating history, referencing the US nuclear bombings of Nagasaki and Hiroshima. “You have crossed this line before. You know what it means to unleash destruction on that scale, and still call it victory. Will you do it again?” he asked.
The Cardinal emphasized that using power without restraint, choosing war without listening, and justifying destruction as strength is not leadership but a moral failure. His message urges reflection amid rising tensions between the US, Israel, and Iran.
